MAKING SEXY SUSTAINABLE

As a team of mums, it’s important to us that we protect the environment for our children by reducing waste and the use of plastic within our business.

Hotmilk Collective are constantly looking at ways to reduce petrochemical plastic consumption in every aspect of how we operate, from our processes to our packaging. We’re not perfect, but we are making small steps everyday to reduce our use of harmful materials. Here are just a few of the ways we are working to reduce our impact:

Compostable packaging:

When you purchase one of our maternity and nursing bras, you’ll notice it comes in a little black courier bag. While this bag may look and feel like normal plastic, it’s a much more sustainable alternative. Our courier bags are made from bioplastic and printed with non-toxic soy based inks. They are certified compostable under AS4736 and certified home compostable AS5810, meaning that when they are added to a commercial or home compost, they will break down entirely into organic waste that can be used in your garden.

Even though our courier bags are made from renewable and sustainable materials, it’s important to make sure they are disposed of properly so they don’t end up in the landfill or ocean. Take a look at the simple steps below for how best to dispose of your Hotmilk courier bag:

How To Dispose Our Packaging:

Reuse it. Our bags can be used as wet bags, food waste bags, or even nappy waste bags!
Compost it. Remove all labels and adhesive before adding to your home compost or commercial compost facility. The bags will then break down into organic waste that can be used for the garden.

No hangers:

Our garments come without plastic hangers and are delivered in bulk boxes without single-use petrochemical plastic bags.

Freight and shipping:

Hotmilk chooses to work with courier companies who have good environmental policies and who also strive to reduce their carbon footprint.

Day-to-day life:

The Hotmilk Collective team takes care to choose products that have minimal impact on the environment, starting from the ground up with our day-to-day office life. We have a compost in our staff kitchen that goes to feeding our designer’s chickens, we opt for cleaning products that are less harsh on our environment and our bodies, and we minimise printing wherever possible.

Conscious garments:

From our designs to our fabrics, we’re making changes to both the material we make our garments out of, to how we make them to reduce unnecessary waste. Just another reason to love our garments even more. Read more about our recycled nylons and manufacturing processes here. We’re constantly looking at ways we can improve our sustainability practices as a business. If you’d like to know more about how we operate or have any feedback, please get in touch here.
